Why do life insurance salespeople seem so pushy?

I have been involved in the life insurance and general insurance industries for the past 30 years.  I have attended training courses in both industries and I can tell you the life insurance industry devotes far more time on sales training than on product training.   Life insurance training courses stress the need for strong closing and prospecting techniques which explains some of the aggressiveness.

The most telling reason is how sales people are paid in the life insurance industry.  Most life insurance commissions are paid when the policy is sold.   The average first year commission for term insurance is about 80% to 100% of the premium while permanent insurance is about 130% to 150% of the premium.  If you haven't already figured it out - premiums for permanent insurance are much higher, as is the commission, so the emphasis is on selling permanent insurance versus term insurance.   This is not to say that permanent insurance is bad, but it does explain why some life insurance sales people may slant their sales efforts more to selling permanent insurance than term insurance.  Some, maybe too aggressively.

Most people do not like discussing or dealing with the question of life insurance so they tend to delay or postpone the decision of purchasing life insurance.   Sales people in the life insurance industry are trained to  create a sense of urgency so that people will act now rather than wait months or years before getting around to dealing with the life insurance issue.  Many times they do not get around to it until it is too late.  Some sales people feel justified in using far more aggressive tactics in order to get people to act before it is too late.

I have been raised as a general insurance sales person so I have a different sales philosophy than I would have if I was strictly a life insurance sales person.  I got involved with life insurance so I could offer a a service to my existing general insurance clients who just wanted life insurance without the hassle.

The No Hassle approach is available by calling 306-821-1620.   I guarantee that I will help you understand life insurance (even better than many agents do) in twenty minutes.  You will feel confident about which life insurance policy you choose, and will be able to do so without any pressure.
